Privacy Policy

Our commitment

Privacy is a high priority for Shared Garden. We are building a platform that connects garden owners with people looking for a place to garden, and we believe that treating personal data with care and transparency is part of earning your trust. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what we do — and don't — do with it. The same commitment to privacy will carry over to the full Shared Garden platform when it launches: we will only ever collect data we genuinely need, and we will update this policy before any new type of data processing begins.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller of your personal data is Zeger Derynck, operating under the name Shared Garden. You can reach us at support@sharedgarden.org.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, we collect only what you enter in the form:

• Your full name
• Your email address
• Whether you are a garden owner or a garden seeker
• The country you live in, which you pick yourself from a list (you can choose "Other" or "Prefer not to say")
• Any questions or expectations you choose to share with us (optional)
• The date and time of your signup

That's it. We do not collect browser or device details, or anything about you from third parties. We also never collect your location: there is no GPS, no geolocation prompt, and nothing that tracks where you browse or which gardens you look at. The only place-related detail we hold is the country you chose yourself in the form — we never guess it from your IP address. The only technical detail we touch is your IP address: it is processed in memory while your request is handled, purely to prevent abuse and rate-limit form submissions. It is never stored, logged, or linked to your identity. All the information we hold comes directly from you.

How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Add you to the waitlist and prevent duplicate signups
• Send you a confirmation email
• Notify you when Shared Garden launches, and occasionally keep you updated on our progress (you can stop these emails at any time by replying to them)
• Read your questions and expectations so we can shape the platform around what future users actually want
• Understand which countries are most interested in Shared Garden, which will help us with focusing our launch markets

Our legal basis for this is your consent: by joining the waitlist you ask us to keep you informed about Shared Garden (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR). We record the date and time you gave that consent, together with the version of this policy you saw, so we can always show what you agreed to. Providing your data is entirely voluntary — if you choose not to, you simply won't be added to the waitlist. And if you'd rather not tell us your country, pick "Prefer not to say" and you can still join.

Who we share your data with

We never sell, rent, or share your data for advertising purposes. We only disclose it to service providers who help us run the waitlist, and strictly for that purpose:

• Supabase — hosts our database
• Vercel — hosts the website
• Sweego — sends our confirmation and update emails

These providers act as processors on our behalf and are bound to protect your data. Some may process data outside the European Economic Area; where they do, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist data for as long as the waitlist is active and for a reasonable period after launch, so we can notify you and provide early access. You can ask us to delete your data at any time, and we will. Once the waitlist no longer serves its purpose, the records will be removed.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Have inaccurate data corrected
• Have your data erased
• Restrict or object to how we use it
• Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format
• Withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect processing that already took place)
• Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email support@sharedgarden.org. We will respond within one month.

How we protect your data

Data is encrypted in transit, stored on protected infrastructure, and accessible only where strictly necessary to operate the waitlist.

No cookies

The waitlist site does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies. We do store one functional entry in your browser's local storage, named sg-locale, which records the language you selected (en or nl). It is not sent to our servers, is not used to track you, and does not cause automatic redirection. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this policy and revise the date below.
